Meghan Markle faces ‘billion dollar problem’ as legal move made against lifestyle brand
The Duchess of Sussex unveiled her American Riveria Orchard brand in April but the United States Patent and Trademark Office reckons that could lead to confusion with another brand
Meghan Markle may have found herself in a sticky situation with her own-brand jam after it emerged she faces another legal battle over the name. The Duchess of Sussex launched American Riveria Orchard in April as she looks to branch out her business interests.
The lifestyle brand will sell a range of goods although her home-made jam was expected to be one of the biggest sellers. But her bid to trademark the name has hit a snag after a similar-named company lodged a letter of protest with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
‘”multi-billion dollar problem” for the Duchess, 43, who has already run afoul of trademark laws in the US.
She tried to trademark his lifestyle blog The Tig last year but was forced to ask for an extension after forgetting to submit a ‘statement of use’. And the trademark office also told her that his “American Riveria” name was too vague.
