News update : Travis Kelce Will Retire from the Kansas City Chiefs to Become the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats…

As the college football season is in full swing, hot seats for coaches are starting. The Cincinnati Bearcats are 3-1 to start 2024, but that doesn’t mean Scott Satterfield is the answer for the team long-term. Instead, it will be Travis Kelce.

As it currently stands, Kelce is actively playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet, if the Chiefs can’t go far this season and after growing tensions last season, the question remains if Kelce would retire. There has been an evident decline in his play, coming off the first season since 2016 where he did not have 1,000 yards. With Kelce getting older and turning 35, it’s clear the Chiefs are starting to shift towards a future without him. Kelce saw the lowest number of targets since 2016 as well with 121, and so far through 2024 he’s been targeted just seven times. Over those seven targets, he has only hauled in four and put up 39 yards, but that’s inflated due to one catch being for 23 yards.

Which leads to the potential of retiring after the 2024 season. With Kelce though, he won’t be able to stay away from the game of football, and instead will have the opportunity to become a head coach.

That team happens to be his alma mater, the Cincinnati Bearcats. Satterfield is currently in year two of his tenure with the Bearcats. During his first season, he led Cincinnati to their worst season in 25 years with a 3-9 record and went 1-8 in the Big 12. The team has been very undisciplined under Satterfield, and while they’ve had a good start to 2024, it’s more so due to the competition they’ve faced being of lesser talent. Satterfield’s coaching has left players dissatisfied, and the program needs to move on.

Kelce knows the culture that is needed to win and be a championship caliber team. He’s been referred to as a major factor in helping Patrick Mahomes in identifying defenses early on, so Kelce already has that coaching instinct to immediately help the players develop. This would propel the Bearcats back to the trajectory they were on under Luke Fickell.
